  • Student workers can earn free registration and lunch for the meeting if they work a shift at the registration table. Students might be asked to work as early as 7:30 am on the day of the meeting. You will be contacted before the meeting about your time slot.

2019 Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania Geographical Society

The 2019 Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania Geographical Society will be held at the Hotel Indigo in Pittsburgh, PA. The meeting is being sponsored by the Department of Earth Sciences, California University of Pennsylvania.

Registration for the meeting will begin on June 1st. NEW FOR THIS YEAR – ALL REGISTRANTS RECEIVE LUNCH as part of the registration fees. Participants who register by October 25th will receive a $10 discount on the registration fees.

This year’s luncheon guest speaker is Dr. Brent McCusker of West Virginia University, the 2019 Distinguished Geographer Award recipient.

Paper presentations are limited to 15 minutes; abstracts of a maximum of 200 words should be submitted with registration. Posters and maps will be on display all day on Friday. Please visit the PGS website for poster size restrictions, and posters must be mounted in such a way that they may be displayed on an easel (i.e. cardboard). Abstract submissions for papers and posters will not be accepted after October 25th! No exceptions! You will be required to submit your abstract information on-line through the PGS web site.

Suggestions for workshops, organized paper sessions and thematic discussion panels are also welcomed. Please contact the meeting co-chairs, Brent Zaprowski (bjzaprowski@salisbury.edu) or Chad Kauffman (Kauffman@calu.edu) if you are interested in running a workshop or special session.


Students are encouraged to enter the paper contest or the Elaine F. Bosowski poster contest and cash awards are presented to the best graduate and undergraduate student papers, maps or posters displayed at the annual meeting. Any graduate or undergraduate student who registers for the PGS meeting is eligible. Separate competitions will be held for undergraduates and graduates, and cash awards are presented for the best papers and maps/posters at each level. Students may enter the paper or map/poster contest simply by checking the appropriate box on the registration form when registering for the conference.
