  • Student workers can earn free registration for meeting if they work a shift at the registration table. Students might be asked to work as early as 7:30 am on the day of the meeting. You will be contacted before the meeting about your time slot.

2017 Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania Geographical Society


The PGS annual meeting committee invites proposals for the 2017 PGS Annual Meeting in Shippensburg, PA on Friday, November 10, 2017. The meeting will be held at The Conference Center at Shippensburg University. Papers and posters on all geographic topics are accepted. THERE IS AMPLE FREE PARKING NEAR THE CONFERENCE CENTER AND THE MARRIOTT HOTEL.

 

Registration for the meeting will begin on September 15th. Participants who register by October 27th will receive a $10 discount on the registration fees.

 

Paper presentations are limited to 15 minutes; abstracts of a maximum of 200 words should be submitted with registration. Posters and maps will be on display all day on Friday. Please visit the PGS website for poster size restrictions. Abstract submissions for papers and posters will not be accepted after October 27th! No exceptions! You will be required to submit your abstract information on-line through the PGS web site.

 

Suggestions for workshops, organized paper sessions and thematic discussion panels are also welcome. Please contact the meeting co-chairs, Brent Zaprowski (bjzaprowski@salisbury.edu) or Kay Williams (KRWILL@ship.edu) if you are interested in running a workshop or special session.

 

Students are encouraged to enter the paper contest or the Elaine F. Bosowski poster contest and cash awards are presented to the best graduate and undergraduate student papers, maps or posters displayed at the annual meeting. Any graduate or undergraduate student who registers for the PGS meeting is eligible and encouraged to participate in the student paper presentation contest, or the Elaine F. Bosowski map/poster contest.  Separate competitions will be held for undergraduates and graduates, and cash awards are presented for the best papers and maps/posters at each level.  Students may enter the paper or map/poster contest simply by checking the appropriate box on the registration form when registering for the conference. For more information, please visit the PGS website: http://www.thepgs.org/studentawards

 

The luncheon and the annual awards banquet will both be held at the Conference Center at Shippensburg University. Meals reservations can only be accepted up through October 27, 2017.

The PGS has arranged to have a block of rooms set aside at a group rate at two hotels in Shippensburg.


1. King rooms can be reserved at a rate of $95.00/night for Thursday and Friday night at Courtyard by Marriott, which is right next door to the convention center. YOU MUST BOOK YOUR ROOM BY OCTOBER 9th TO GET THE SPECIAL GROUP RATE.

2. Double queen rooms can be reserved at Shippen Place Hotel at a rate of $75/night. The Shippen Place Hotel is in downtown Shippensburg, about a 5 minute drive from the convention center. When you call to make your reservation, please mention the group name "PA Geographical Society" to get the group rate.
